I am looking for any ideas for trips or activites for TY students doing Classical Studies.I have the UCD Classical Studies Museum listed but I am not sure of any other places/ideasAnybody have any suggestions?
I do some Ancient Egypt with TY (just mummies, some Myths, and a little on the Daily life) and then bring them into the National Museum of Archaeology รณ Kildare St. We start in the small Egyptian/Roman room and then I let them explore the other sections - we don't do a tour and I prefer to give them the opportunity to discover things on their own and I do it quickly enough, about 1 hour. We combined with TY history. They enjoyed the experience.
I suppose it would also be worth keeping an eye on cinemas and Theatres in case there are any relevant movies or plays showing. I've brought students to Classical inspired plays.
If you think they'd like Art/Architecture, you can do a module and bring them around Dublin to see the Classical Buildings or even to one of the big country houses like Castletown House. There's also tapestries of Roman History in Kilkenny Castle. Not sure if there's any Classics relevant art in the National Art Gallery. But I've never done Art/Architecture with TY. It's not usually what they're interested in.
I don't know if they still do events, but there's also Legion Ireland (Roman army re-enactment). They might come to the school for a presentation.
Not sure what else... maybe others have thought of other things.
