Hi All, Can anyone advise on where in Ireland I can/is best to do a Professional Masters in Education for Classical Studies? I have a 2.1 degree from TCD in Classcial Civilisation and want to become a Classical Studies and History teacher, however I am struggling to find universities that include Classical Studies as a curriculium option on their PME courses. Many thanks in advance, Jenny

P.S. I assume that you studied History as part of your TCD degree, since you are looking to qualify for History?
Hi Jenny,
Currently there is only one University that offers Classical Studies as a part of their PME course - UCD.
You apply for these through the NUI application process if I remeber correctly - probably best to check out the UCD website. The submission date for beginning 2021 may have been February (at least it was when I applied in my year but may be different this year). You would then have to apply before next February.
The other option is to apply for Trinity or Maynooth with History (Maynooth is the same applicationas UCD). Trinity at least allows for PMEs to have only one subject for the duration of your training, or (as with Maynooth) they would advise you to take a method's in English, CSPE, or Religion.
It doesn't matter whether you complete a methods in Classical Studies or not either way. When you complete the PME (either in UCD with the methods or Trinity or Maynooth without the Classics Method) you will qualify to teach Classical Studies with the Teaching Council. You will just need to fill in a subject declaration form. I did something similar with Greek and Latin: I did no methods during the PME but qualified with them at the end with Classical Studies.
